There are three types of paddy sown here named as puncha, mundakan and viruppu. Rice is the major crop cultivated in wet land. Nutmeg and Pineapple are hugely produced here, in fact Ernakulam district is the largest producer of these two products in the whole state. In both cases, production has been showing a steep growth since the last few years. It may be noted that around 70% of the total production of Pineapple in the country is supported by Ernakulam district. Muvattupuzha and Vazhakulam are the major areas for Pineapple production. Among plantation crop, Rubber is hugely produced in this area making it the second largest rubber producing centre in the state.
